On September 10, 2026, Guimaras State University (GSU) joined the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) at the GSU Grounds, Salvador Campus, putting its disaster preparedness measures and emergency response protocols through an actual campus-wide exercise.
Faculty, staff, and students took part in the drill by carrying out prescribed safety measures during and after a simulated earthquake, including the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure and other immediate response actions.
The activity opened with a prayer led by Felipe Cordero, President of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Coordinating Council Association (DRRMCCA), followed by a message from the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), Dr. Erly M. Martir.
Dr. Allan S. David delivered the statement of purpose, outlining the significance of the exercise in keeping the University community familiar with proper earthquake response and evacuation procedures.
An evaluation team composed of representatives from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Army subsequently presented its evaluation results, providing observations on the conduct and response of the participating units.
Tokens and certificates were presented by Dr. Erly M. Martir, Jean Baterzal, and Instr. Allan S. David, while Mrs. Jean Baterzal delivered the closing remarks.
