From May 4 to 6, 2026, Guimaras State University (GSU) conducted a three-day Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Workshop, bringing together university officials, administrative personnel, and faculty members for an extensive undertaking focused on institutional refinement and operational discipline.
The opening program, held at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall, commenced with a message from University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, who stressed the university’s continuing pursuit of principled governance and service responsiveness. She noted that the PQA framework offers more than a measuring instrument, describing it instead as a working compass for institutions seeking steadier systems, sharper accountability, and more grounded public service.
The rationale of the activity was laid out by Dr. Methusela C. Perrocha, Director of Quality Assurance, who mapped out the university’s preparatory course toward performance distinction. She emphasized that the workshop was intended to examine not only procedures and outputs, but also the institution’s capacity to sustain long-term organizational maturity.
Tapped as lead resource speaker for the duration of the workshop was Engr. Angelica C. Fraginal, who steered participants through a succession of discussions, assessment exercises, and workshop sessions linked to organizational systems and quality management practices. Participants from different offices underwent collaborative evaluations intended to scrutinize institutional operations against the standards prescribed under the PQA framework.
The first day concentrated on foundational discussions and the initial workshop sessions at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall. On the second day, activities shifted to the GSU Audio Visual Room, where colleges and offices carried out internal assessments and strategic reviews. The final day returned to the Agri-Eco Convention Hall for the consolidation of outputs, refinement of institutional plans, and closing rites.
Documents, assessments, and operational strategies developed throughout the three-day undertaking are expected to serve as reference points for future institutional planning and quality assurance initiatives.
The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates and a commemorative photo session, marking another deliberate stride in the university’s continuing pursuit of institutional distinction under the Philippine Quality Award framework.
