On May 5, 2026, Guimaras State University (GSU) served as the host institution for the Technical Budget Hearing for Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Proposals, held at the Library Learning Commons. The full-day engagement brought together academic executives and finance officers from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across Western Visayas for a structured review of funding proposals for the upcoming fiscal year.

The proceedings opened with welcome remarks from University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, who stressed the university’s role as host and its commitment to transparent and well-aligned budget planning processes. This was followed by a key message from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), represented by Dir. Maria Liane L. Gayomali, who emphasized fiscal discipline, prudent allocation of public funds, and the need to ensure that institutional proposals remain consistent with national development priorities.

The “Presentation Proper” featured a series of budget defenses from eight SUCs in the region, each outlining their proposed allocations for programs, operations, and development initiatives for FY 2027.

During the morning session, presentations were delivered by West Visayas State University (WVSU), followed by Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), University of Antique (UA), and Northern Iloilo State University (NISU).

After a midday break, the afternoon session resumed with budget presentations from Aklan State University (ASU), Capiz State University (CapSU), and Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U).

GSU closed the proceedings with its own presentation, outlining its forward-looking agenda for campus development, academic strengthening, and institutional expansion in the coming fiscal year.
