College of Agricultural Sciences Advances SDG 4 with Comprehensive Curriculum Review

In a significant move toward enhancing education quality and aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) for inclusive and equitable quality education, the College of Agricultural Sciences conducted an in-depth curriculum review on June 21, 2023. This activity focused on the Bachelor of Science programs in Agriculture and Fisheries, with the goal of integrating the recently issued Program Standards and Guidelines (PSGs) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The curriculum review aimed to modernize and enhance the academic offerings, ensuring they are relevant to current industry demands and foster students’ preparedness for agricultural innovation.

Held at the university campus, the event was attended by key university stakeholders, including the University President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, student representatives, faculty trustees, program chairs, program heads, and representatives from various agricultural and fisheries industry sectors. Their collaborative input underscored the institution’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates while also contributing to sustainable agriculture and community development.

During the review, participants also evaluated the feasibility of introducing new program offerings such as the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. These proposed programs reflect the institution’s proactive response to emerging environmental and economic challenges, particularly in rural areas. If approved, these new offerings will support SDG 4 by providing more specialized educational paths, allowing students to engage in fields critical to environmental management and agribusiness, both locally and globally.

The curriculum review not only emphasized alignment with CHED’s PSGs but also highlighted the university’s dedication to academic innovation and industry collaboration. By updating curricula to meet current standards, the College of Agricultural Sciences contributes to a more inclusive and high-quality educational environment that prepares students to lead in sustainable agricultural practices, supporting a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
