The College of Science and Technology (CST) conducted an extension activity entitled, “Data Protection Seminar on RA 10173 – Data Privacy Act of 2012” on March 28, 2023 at East Valencia National High School (EVNHS), East Valencia, Buenavista, Guimaras. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the importance of data privacy and the legal implications of violating the provisions of RA 10173. It was attended by 240 participants (200 Senior High School Learners and 40 Teachers and Staff).
Instructor James Ryan B. Ga and Instructor Loveson C. Gallos were the resource speakers during the seminar. The participants were informed on the salient features of RA 10173 including the definition of personal information, data privacy principles, data protection officers, and the penalties for non-compliance.
During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to raise their concerns and ask questions about the implementation of RA 10173 and the resource speakers, who are expert in data privacy and security, provided practical examples and shared best practices on how organizations can comply with the law.
The seminar on Data Protection RA 10173 and Data Privacy Act of 2012 became successful. The participants gained a better understanding on the importance of data privacy and the legal framework governing the protection of personal information. The CST – Community Extension Services Team received positive feedback from the participants who expressed their appreciation for the informative and engaging seminar.
Moreover, the team also plans to conduct follow-up activities, such as consultation sessions for organizations that need assistance in complying with RA 10173 and to collaborate with other organizations to raise awareness about data privacy and the importance of protecting personal information.
