On March 28, 2023, the College of Business and Management at Guimaras State University launched a five-day extension program titled “Enhancing Business Skills for Kakanin Producers.” Held in the ICTO Conference Room, the initiative aimed to equip local kakanin producers in Buenavista with essential skills in business management, food safety, and marketing.

The program empowers micro-entrepreneurs by strengthening their ability to manage businesses effectively and expand their market reach. This training supports Sustainable Development Goals, such as “No Poverty,” by improving food safety practices, sanitation, hygiene knowledge, financial management skills, packaging and labeling standards, pricing strategies, and marketing techniques.

Dr. Arthur C. Soqueña, Dean of the College of Business and Management, opened the event, followed by expert-led sessions featuring presentations and practical activities. Dr. Margie Y. De la Cruz, Extension Director, emphasized the importance of food quality for consumer health and economic growth. The program highlighted sustainable practices and quality improvements, contributing to the local economy and showcasing Guimaras State University’s commitment to community development and local entrepreneur empowerment.
