In a continued effort to support and empower local micro-entrepreneurs, Guimaras State University (GSU), in partnership with the Suclaran Micro Entrepreneur Association (SMEA), successfully conducted an extension training program aimed at enhancing the skills of community members in the hospitality industry.
The training, entitled “Catering/Banquet Management and Food Costing Training for Suclaran Micro Entrepreneurs Association (SMEA),” took place on July 31 to August 1, 2023, at the Barangay Suclaran Auditorium in San Lorenzo, Guimaras. This initiative was spearheaded by the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of GSU as part of its ongoing commitment to sustaining extension activities that create meaningful impacts on the livelihoods of local entrepreneurs.
The event featured expert speakers who provided insights on catering services, banquet management, and food costing—essential knowledge for small business owners looking to improve their operations and profitability in the food service industry. Participants gained hands-on experience and practical knowledge to help them enhance their catering businesses and increase their competitive edge in the market.
Aside from lectures and demonstrations, interactive workshops were conducted to provide real-world applications of the training. Participants were given opportunities to apply food costing strategies and practice essential catering skills under the guidance of industry professionals. Feedback from attendees highlighted the significance of the training in improving their business strategies and efficiency.
Through this collaborative effort, GSU and SMEA successfully uplifted the micro-entrepreneur community by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the hospitality sector. The initiative underscored the university’s dedication to fostering sustainable community development through education and skills training.
