Training in building and house wiring installation is essential to ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency in electrical setups. Proper training provides individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand electrical principles, interpret blueprints, select appropriate materials, and perform installations according to industry standards and regulations. Acquiring these skills opens up job opportunities, especially for those seeking employment in domestic and commercial wiring installations.
Recognizing the potential for community upliftment through skill development, the Guimaras State University College of Engineering and Industrial Technology (GSU CEIT), in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista, conducted a one-day Building and House Wiring Installation Training under their extension project, Wireflow Pro Connect. This training session, held on August 18, 2023, aimed to equip ten unemployed Buenavistahanons with the necessary skills for proficiently installing electrical wiring systems. This initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Instr. Ralph Hervilla, along with other faculty members from the Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) program, led the training, providing hands-on mentoring in designing wiring layouts for various building types. Participants learned how to make layout decisions based on building size, load requirements, and circuit distribution. Through practical sessions, participants gained experience in routing cables, connecting outlets, switches, and fixtures, all while ensuring efficient and safe electrical connections.
The training emphasized reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and blueprints commonly used in building wiring projects, as well as understanding and adhering to electrical codes and standards for compliance and safety.
At the end of the training, a participant shared his experience, noting that the training not only equipped them with essential installation skills but also provided troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve common electrical issues. This initiative represents a meaningful step towards improving job readiness and supporting local economic growth within the community.
