Guimaras State University Embraces Global Learning: Exchange Students and SEA-Teacher Program

In a significant step towards enhancing international collaboration and promoting quality education, Guimaras State University (GSU) welcomed three exchange students from Universitas Pakuan, Indonesia, on September 9, 2023. These students are set to embark on their Practice Teaching as part of a broader initiative to foster global academic partnerships and cultural exchange. On September 11, 2023, they had the opportunity to meet formally with the University President, marking the beginning of their educational journey at GSU.

The arrival of these exchange students is part of the university’s commitment to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which seeks to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. By providing international students with opportunities to immerse themselves in local educational practices and promoting the exchange of knowledge, GSU reinforces its role in preparing students to thrive in a globalized world.

At the same time, GSU was also actively involved in supporting the 9th batch of the SEA-Teacher Student Exchange Program. This program, aimed at providing Southeast Asian teachers-in-training with real-world teaching experiences, sent eight students from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) to Vietnam on September 10, 2023. Dr. Jasmin T. Gadian, Dean of CTE, and Dr. Helen R. Vilbar, Assistant Director for International Affairs and External Linkages, accompanied the students to Vietnam, where they are expected to engage in valuable teaching practice and cultural exchange.

The SEA-Teacher Program, which forms part of the ASEAN regional cooperation on education, empowers future educators by enabling them to exchange best practices and experiences across different cultures. This aligns with SDG 4’s vision of fostering a diverse and inclusive educational experience that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of an interconnected world.

As Guimaras State University continues to champion global education and learning exchanges, the integration of the SEA-Teacher Program and the arrival of exchange students underlines the institution’s steadfast commitment to achieving quality education for all, supporting sustainable development, and nurturing a generation of educators equipped to lead in the global arena.
