On September 6, 2023, various colleges within Guimaras State University’s Salvador Campus organized a series of orientation programs aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge about university policies and programs. These orientations, held to mark the start of the academic year, focused on reinforcing the university’s commitment to sustainable education and fostering an environment that supports student retention and academic success, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education.
During the orientations, deans from the different colleges took the opportunity to address important university policies, with a key focus on the Retention Policy. This policy outlines the academic standards that students must meet to remain enrolled in their programs, ensuring that students understand the expectations and resources available to help them succeed. The orientation also highlighted various board programs designed to prepare students for licensure exams and professional careers.
On September 7 and September 13, 2023, the College of Agricultural Sciences held separate orientation programs specifically for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA), Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF), and Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (BSFT) programs. During these sessions, Dr. Vergara, the Dean of the College, provided an in-depth discussion of the Admission and Retention Policies, emphasizing the importance of meeting academic requirements and how these policies are designed to support student success.
The orientation programs were not only informative but also aligned with the university’s goal to ensure equal access to education for all students. By emphasizing the importance of retention and providing students with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed, Guimaras State University continues to uphold SDG 4, ensuring that education is inclusive, equitable, and of high quality for all learners.
These events also reflect the university’s holistic approach to education, where policies are framed not just for academic excellence, but to foster a supportive environment that helps students achieve their full potential. As part of its commitment to SDG 4, GSU continues to engage students in meaningful discussions about their academic journey, paving the way for a better future for all.
