Guimaras State University recently concluded a three-day “Research-Based Extension Proposal Training and Writeshop” from March 22-24, 2023, held at the SU-Baterna campus conference room. This event aimed not only to enhance the skills of faculty-extensionists in developing research-based extension project proposals but also to promote quality education as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 4.
The training brought together research and extension coordinators from eight university colleges, highlighting the institution’s commitment to fostering an environment of learning and innovation. By equipping faculty with the necessary tools and knowledge, the university is actively contributing to the enhancement of educational quality, ensuring that academic resources are effectively utilized for community development.
Expert-led sessions on proposal formulation, monitoring, and evaluation were conducted by Dr. Ricky Becodo, Director of the West Visayas State University Extension Development Center, along with other distinguished guest speakers. Key topics included project rationale, objectives, methodology, and logframe development, emphasizing evidence-based practices that align with SDG 4’s focus on inclusive and equitable quality education.
Participants engaged in hands-on writeshops and critiquing sessions, which facilitated collaborative learning and peer feedback. This interactive approach not only bolstered their proposal-writing skills but also encouraged a culture of continuous professional development among faculty members.
On the final day, each college presented its project outputs, receiving constructive feedback to refine their proposals further. The insights gained during this training will empower faculty to implement research-driven initiatives that address local needs, thereby enhancing the impact of extension services.
As participants left with renewed knowledge and practical tools, the training marked a significant step toward strengthening research-based extension work at Guimaras State University. This initiative exemplifies the university’s dedication to promoting quality education and sustainable development in the region, aligning with its mission to foster lifelong learning and community engagement.
