Cracking New Opportunities: Guimaras State University Empowers Communities with Salted Egg Making Skills

On July 17-18, 2023, Guimaras State University’s College of Teacher Education launched the PANGABUHI-AN Livelihood Education Project, focusing on food processing skills training in salted egg making. This initiative, held at the Bethlehem Foursquare Gospel Church, aimed to provide community youth, unemployed professionals, and solo parents with essential skills to improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable development. Also, this activity specifically aimed to support the sustainable development goal of “Good Health and Well-Being.”

The training began with a prayer and welcoming remarks from Dr. Margie Y. De la Cruz, Director of Extension Services, who emphasized the importance of community engagement in livelihood programs. Instruction was provided by Instr. Gilbert A. Amistas, who highlighted the significance of developing food processing skills for income generation and poverty alleviation.

Participants learned various techniques for making salted eggs, including methods for preserving, packaging, and ensuring food sanitation. Prof. Margie Y. De la Cruz also shared valuable insights on extending the shelf life of products through freezing and dehydrating methods.

The hands-on training allowed participants to practice their skills, ensuring they understood the processes involved in making salted eggs. After completing the training, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts and commitment to learning.

This successful initiative not only equipped community members with practical skills but also aligned with the university’s mission to enhance the quality of life in local communities through education and sustainable practices.
