On August 15, 2023, Guimaras State University’s Graduate School conducted a one-day mental health awareness program titled “Mental Health and Coping Mechanisms” at the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) in Concordia, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
The activity aimed to support the sustainable development goal of “Good Health and Well-Being” by enhancing participants’ understanding of mental health, stress management, and responsible family relationships. It also encouraged participants to recognize the vital role of adolescents in promoting harmony within the household, school, and community.
Led by Instructor Anthony Jalando-on, the session engaged RRCY residents and staff in an interactive lecture featuring visual aids to prompt discussion. Participants actively shared insights, analyzing images related to mental health concepts, which fostered open dialogue and collaborative learning. This initiative, part of GSU’s community extension services, reflects the university’s commitment to addressing mental health through education and aligns with its mission to promote well-being and resilience among local communities.
