This activity was attended by a representative of BDC, our VPRETI, Dr. Julieta G. Infante, and along with her were Dr. Margie Y. De La Cruz, Director for Community Extension Services, Dr. Arthur C. Soqueña, Dean of the College of Business and Management, Instr. Michael M. Occeña, Program Head of the Bachelor in Industrial Technology, Dr. Crisanto G. Occeña, Faculty of the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology, and Instr. Revenlie G. Galapin, Extension Coordinator of the College of Business Management – Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Previously, the GSU partnered with BDC to implement a series of training and extension activities that were conducted to the beneficiaries and 2 of the colleges benefited from this innovation, the College of Business and Management (CBM) and the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology (CEIT). The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) under the College of Business and Management conducted Food Preparation Skills Training to equip the mobile vendors with the necessary skills and knowledge in preparing and processing recipes which were provided to them in addition to their products offered which shall provide opportunities for them in achieving stability of their income and improve customer satisfaction. Another activity conducted by the BSHM was the Operational Management Skills Training to gain knowledge on concepts of sanitary food handling and delivery services, to be aware of the importance of personal cleanliness and health, and to improve their skills on hygiene, sanitation, and food handling. Under the same college, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) assisted them on their costing and pricing through Recipe Costing and Marketing Strategy Skills Training, an extension activity that aimed to introduce the importance of costing and marketing strategy and to understand the control of cost in identifying and reducing business expenses to increase profits as an important factor in maintaining and growing profitability. In addition, the Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT) under the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology, trained the beneficiaries some skills through Food Processing Skills Training that aspires in equipping them to plan, prepare, cook, and package their own home made processed foods.

The identified beneficiaries and members of the Buenavista Development Cooperative truly benefited from the technologies developed by the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology. With the assistance of the start-up provided by Guimaras State University in the form of knowledge, skills, and a cart, they are currently operating their business on wheels and have profited from it. As a result, the Community Extension Services achieved its goal of enhancing the quality of life of community members, particularly the underprivileged and the marginalized poor.
