“Integrity is not reduced to a catchphrase. It is practiced; in public, in plain view, and on record.”
As part of its 57th Founding Anniversary and University Week 2025, Guimaras State University (GSU) held its Integrity Walk and Forum, spearheaded by the Campus Integrity Crusaders (CIC) in collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsman–Visayas, the Office of Student Development and Services, and the GSU Student Republic. The event was both symbolic and procedural; a convergence of civic education, public ethics, and institutional accountability.
At sunrise, participants assembled on the university oval, where they walked in coordinated sequence to form the letters “GSU–CIC.” It was a carefully structured activity, devoid of excess, intended to demonstrate alignment between institutional values and community conduct.
Following the walk, the forum opened with statements from university officials at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall. University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, in her address, distinguished integrity as not merely aspirational, but operational. “We do more than attend another event,” she said. “We take a powerful step forward in building a culture grounded in honesty, accountability, and moral courage.”
She called the Campus Integrity Crusaders “torchbearers of ethical leadership,” commending them not only for volunteering but for stepping into a public commitment to represent values through action. “May your footsteps during today’s walk leave an imprint of honor and a call for integrity wherever you go.”
In a message of institutional alignment, Mrs. Janet R. Aleman, Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), stated, “We commend the dedication of our newly accredited Campus Integrity Crusaders… for answering the call to lead by example and to ignite the flame of truth, transparency, and service among their peers.”
Dr. Erly M. Martir, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), spotlighted the operational dimension of values formation in an academic setting, “Integrity is the foundation of trust and respect, not only in education but in all aspects of life.”
Delivering the message of Dr. Julius T. Vergara, Vice President for Research, Extension, Training, and Innovation (VPRETI), Dr. Margie Y. De la Cruz highlighted continuity between university values and national development. The Ombudsman’s keynote remarks reinforced integrity as both personal morality and institutional compliance with law and duty.
The Campus Integrity Crusaders, re-accredited for Academic Year 2025–2026, will coordinate future university-wide activities focused on ethics education, student-led monitoring, and accountability mechanisms. The Office of the Ombudsman–Visayas is expected to maintain engagement with the university in these programs.
What remained was a public record: that GSU placed integrity not on paper, but in motion—observable, repeatable, and now, expected.
