As part of its 57th Founding Anniversary and University Week 2025, Guimaras State University (GSU) held Sidlak 2025, a two-day gathering that put student talent and creativity at the forefront.
From June 4 to 5, students from all colleges participated in contests ranging from literary writing and dance to music and visual arts. Events also included debates, speeches, and sports, giving students multiple ways to express both skill and perspective.
This year’s theme, “GSU United: Together We Thrive,” shaped the event’s tone, a mix of friendly competition and shared effort. Participants weren’t just aiming for personal wins; each point earned added to their college’s standing in the race for the overall University Week title.
Activities took over the Covered Gym and various spaces. Hallways turned into gallery spaces for student artwork. Crowds moved between stages and exhibits, showing strong support across all events. The atmosphere was lively but grounded, driven by a clear sense of purpose: to show what GSU students can do when given the platform.
The College of Teacher Education (CTE) took the top spot in this year’s Sidlak. The College of Business and Management (CBM) earned 1st Runner-Up, while the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) followed as 2nd Runner-Up.
“Sidlak,” meaning “to shine,” lived up to its name in quiet and loud ways: a poem delivered with trembling hands, a paint-stained sketchbook opened for the first time, a dance set executed with grit and sweat after weeks of rehearsals.
Beyond trophies and rankings, Sidlak 2025 reminded the community that culture and the arts have a place at the heart of education; not as extras, but as expressions of thought, discipline, and identity.
