GSU Crowned Champion in Manggahan Festival Street Dance Competition

Guimaras State University’s (GSU) Taga Isla Dance Company, composed of Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) students, emerged as champions in the Amateur Category of the 2025 Manggahan Festival Street Dancing Competition. The group outpaced other contingents through a performance that merged disciplined movement, compelling narrative, and cultural pride.

Held on May 22 as part of the province’s 33rd Provincehood Anniversary, the Manggahan Festival drew competing dance troupes from across Guimaras and nearby areas. Taga Isla Dance Company secured not only the championship trophy but also earned several key distinctions—Best in Choreography, Best in Music, Best in Performance, and Best in Costume and Props—marking a clean sweep of the minor awards in their division.

The group’s performance demonstrated months of careful training and preparation. Guided by faculty support—Dr. Ervin L. Isogon, Elishama Jepphunee D. Isogon, and Prof. Maribeth E. Sumalde—their routine fused traditional and contemporary elements. Their thematic presentation, precise synchronization, and dynamic transitions impressed both judges and audiences, setting them apart in a tightly contested field.
