Recognizing the critical need for earthquake preparedness, Guimaras State University (GSU) took a step by participating in the Orientation and Planning Activity for the 2025 Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED). The event, held on March 12, 2025, at the Agri Eco Convention Hall, was conducted in collaboration with the Capiz State University – National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CAPSU – DRRMO).
This preparatory session convened faculty members, administrative personnel, presidents of all campus organizations, and class mayors to refine their emergency response strategies ahead of the March 13, 2025, earthquake drill. The orientation featured best practices in seismic hazard mitigation, rapid evacuation procedures, and emergency response protocols aligned with national disaster risk reduction frameworks.

The upcoming drill is executed in adherence to Republic Act No. 7722, also known as the Higher Education Act of 1994, which mandates the integration of disaster preparedness programs within higher education institutions. Through this initiative, the university aims to instill a heightened level of seismic awareness and operational readiness among its students, faculty, and staff, ensuring they can execute swift, coordinated, and life-preserving actions in the face of seismic threats.
University officials stated the indispensable role of simulation exercises in cultivating a robust culture of earthquake preparedness and resilience. They urged full participation from the academic community, stressing that such drills are instrumental in refining emergency response capabilities, minimizing casualties, and fortifying institutional disaster readiness.
