Food Processing Skills Training: Financial Management, Pricing and Costing

The Guimaras State University- College of Business and management took a proactive approach to empowering the Mt. Zion Foursquare Gospel Church community by offering a two-day Food Processing Skills Training. Held in Dagsaan, Buenavista, Guimaras, on June 29-30, 2023, the training focused on essential business skills, including Financial Management, Pricing, and Costing, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to start and run their own successful food processing ventures.

The training, a collaborative effort between the university’s Community Extension Services Office, Graduate School, and business and technology departments, aimed to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Participants, eager to learn and enhance their skills, were guided by university faculty and staff through hands-on workshops. They learned to prepare a variety of popular Filipino dishes, including siomai, longganisa, molo balls, smoked fish, pork tocino, beef tapa, and salted eggs.

Beyond the practical food preparation skills, the training delved into the crucial aspects of financial management. Participants engaged in workshops on budget preparation, sales analysis, and revenue generation, gaining valuable insights into the financial aspects of running a successful business.

The training was a resounding success, with participants expressing gratitude for the knowledge gained and their newfound ability to potentially start their own food processing ventures. The university’s commitment to empowering communities through practical skills training and fostering sustainable development was evident in the positive impact of this program. The Mt. Zion Foursquare Gospel Church community emerged from the training with a renewed sense of confidence and the tools necessary to build a brighter future for themselves and their community.
