CHED CoScho Monitoring Visit at GSU

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted its Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) visit for the Scholarship Program for Coconut Farmers and their Families (CoScho) on October 23, 2025, at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall, Guimaras State University (GSU) Salvador Campus. The activity aimed to assess the progress of the scholarship program’s implementation and to engage directly with student-scholars benefiting from the initiative.

A total of 27 scholars from GSU currently benefit from the CoScho program, and each will be receiving ₱40,000 in financial assistance to support their academic pursuits.

In his opening message, Dir. Rey M. Arturo, head of the Office of Student Development and Services (OSDS), welcomed the CHED representatives and expressed appreciation for the continued support extended to the university’s scholars.

Mr. Arnold V. Ancheta, Education Program Specialist from CHED-OSDS, delivered the statement of purpose, outlining the objectives of the monitoring activity and emphasizing the importance of institutional cooperation in maintaining transparency and accountability. Likewise, Dr. Erly M. Martir, Vice President for Academic Affairs, reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence and student support, noting that the scholarship has played a crucial role in expanding educational access among children of coconut farmers.

An inspirational message was given by Mr. Jimbo Mallari from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Central Office, who highlighted the broader vision of the CoScho program—to uplift rural communities through education and capacity building. He commended both CHED and GSU for their joint efforts in sustaining the development of human capital within the agricultural sector.

Mrs. Loren Joy M. Mermida, Project Technical Staff I, introduced the members of the M&E Team, who then facilitated the on-site assessment and documentation of program implementation.
