On October 3, 2025, Guimaras State University (GSU), acting as host, officially welcomed delegates to the 16th Kampo Kalikasan, a national environmental youth camp organized under the SAVE ME Movement. The kick-off plenary gathered state universities and colleges (SUCs) from across the country for sessions on environmental advocacy, sustainability, and youth leadership.

The opening program featured messages from Vice President Sara Duterte and Senate President Francis Escudero, highlighting the government’s support for youth-led environmental initiatives. SAVE ME Movement Chair Dr. Edwin Chinel Monares expressed gratitude to GSU and the participating institutions for sustaining the legacy of Kampo Kalikasan. GSU President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, National Director Dr. Jasmin T. Gadian, and other officials followed with remarks featuring the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship and youth engagement.

Program sessions proceeded with presentations led by Dr. Rhea Joy D. Flora and Mr. Jenner F. Fetiza, who tackled topics such as ecological resilience, climate adaptation strategies, and the role of youth in environmental monitoring and advocacy. Kampo Kalikasan is the annual camp of the SAVE ME Movement (Students’ Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth), a youth-environment organization endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education.

With the theme “ROOTED. RISING. RESILIENT: Nurturing Eco-Warriors of Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” the camp provides a platform for environmental awareness, leadership, and collaboration. The four-day event includes workshops, field immersions, peer learning, and action planning for youth-led initiatives. The Province of Guimaras, led by Governor Ma. Lucille L. Nava, affirmed support by providing logistical and institutional assistance throughout the camp.
