Guimaras State University (GSU) received recognition for its contribution to community-based enterprise education at a national gathering focused on applied research and grassroots development. An extension paper presented by Instructor Revenlie G. Galapin was awarded 1st Best Poster under the Entrepreneurship and Circular Economy category during the PAEPI International Extension Congress, held June 10–13 at the Del Carmen Convention Center in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
The paper, titled “BSBA Cares: Impact of Recipe Costing, Pricing, and Marketing Strategy Skills Training” outlined a university-led training program focused on basic business tools for small-scale entrepreneurs. The project engaged participants in developing practical skills around food product costing, value-based pricing, and low-resource marketing; all tailored for community application.
Co-authored by Dr. Anelyn A. Janaban and Instructor Daisy B. Ibieza of the College of Business and Management (CBM), the study was recognized for its clarity, relevance, and alignment with the congress theme: “Embracing Science and Technology-Driven Extension Platforms for Sustainable and Inclusive Communities.” The award included a certificate and a cash prize.
The PAEPI International Extension Congress is a regular platform for extension program implementers and researchers to present fieldwork linked to public service, education, and sustainability. It gathers delegates from state universities, local government partners, and development organizations across the country.
This year’s focus was on projects that not only reach underserved groups, but do so through replicable and resource-conscious approaches.
Within the university, the project is one of several CBM-led efforts to link academic instruction with applied community work, particularly in entrepreneurship and livelihood development. The work was developed under the university’s broader mandate for community engagement, as outlined in its extension framework.
The whole GSU community extends its congratulations to the team for this recognition. The outcome was noted for what it affirms: that work done with focus, over time, in ordinary settings, can hold weight in national forums.
