GSU Opens University Week 2025 with Campus-Wide Celebration and Parade

Opening day of University Week 2025

On June 2, 2025, Guimaras State University (GSU) opened its University Week 2025 with activities that brought together students, faculty, staff, and university officials in a day of celebration and shared identity.

The day began with a morning Mass held at the GSU Covered Gymnasium. Faculty, students, and staff gathered for the liturgical service — a quiet opening to a week designed to feature the university’s energy and spirit.

Immediately after, a university-wide parade moved through the campus. Leading the march were representatives from all academic units and administrative offices, including the Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CAgS, Agricultural Sciences (CAS), Business and Management (CBM), Engineering and Industrial Technology (CEIT), Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), Science and Technology (CST), Teacher Education (CTE), and Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM). They were joined by the Graduate School, administrative staff, and university officials.

An opening program followed, with Hon. Cyril Beltran delivering a message on behalf of Mayor Samuel T. Gumarin. Beltran fortified the municipal government’s support for the university, saying, “Padulong sa mas masanag nga palaabuton,” a message framed around progress and sustained partnership.

University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño also addressed the crowd, urging students to take part in the week’s activities with fairness and pride. She reminded everyone that competition should bring out effort, not rivalry, and that the real value lies in participation and showing one’s best.

Deans then led the presentation of their respective colleges, each group offering a brief display that reflected its identity and role within the university. These segments provided both structure and momentum for the days ahead.

Dr. Parreño later returned to the podium to declare the official opening of the celebration.

University Week, observed annually, is a time when the campus shifts pace — moving from regular classes to programs that recognize student life, academic diversity, and institutional growth. At GSU, it remains a week to step back, take stock, and take part.
