Guimaras State University (GSU) marked another milestone on May 28, 2025, as it received several regional recognitions during the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) 31st Anniversary and 5th Higher Education Day Celebration. The event, which also hosted the 4th CHED Regional Quality Awards, was held at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, Central Philippine University, Jaro, Iloilo City.

Along with other higher education institutions (HEIs) across Western Visayas, GSU also stood out with distinctions in several categories: provision of full support to CHEDRO VI initiatives, 100% Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) in undergraduate and graduate programs, and excellence in internationalization initiatives. GSU was also named a model implementer for key government scholarship programs, including the Student Financial Assistance Program (STUFAP), Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), and the Scholarships for Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP).

Representing University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, the GSU delegation was led by Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Erly M. Martir, together with Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) Mrs. Janet R. Aleman. Joining them were Office of Student Development and Services (OSDS) Director Violeta C. Efondo, Sports and Wellness Director Leopoldo Third R. Tumapang, OSDS staff Ms. Fretch Escamillan, and Information Officer Mr. James Z. Rojo.

Also in full support was Hon. Ranie E. Rodriguez, former member of the GSU Board of Regents and representative of Hon. Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Higher & Technical Education.

The regional quality awards aim to recognize the outstanding contributions of HEIs that have significantly advanced CHED’s thrusts in governance, access, equity, and global competitiveness. This year’s celebration reaffirmed the vital role of institutions like GSU in elevating the higher education landscape of the Philippines.

The university’s consistent performance across academic, administrative, and global engagement fronts spotlights its evolving reputation as a responsive and forward-moving public institution.
