The College of Agricultural Sciences (CAgS) of the Guimaras State University (GSU) has proudly received a ₱1 million grant from the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Western Visayas. The grant, awarded through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), was conferred during the 2024 Western Visayas Young Farmers Challenge Summit, held on December 5-6, 2024, at Eon Centennial Resort Hotel and Waterpark in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Under the Young Farmers Challenge Business Development Assistance (YFCBDA) program, the grant will fund the project titled “Shared Post-Harvest Equipment Support for Young Farmers & Agripreneurs in Guimaras.” The project aims to provide young farmers in Guimaras with access to shared post-harvest tools and equipment, enhancing the quality, efficiency, and profitability of their agri-fishery products. By reducing post-harvest losses and improving production capabilities, the initiative supports sustainable agribusiness development while encouraging innovative practices among the province’s young farmers. This endeavor not only fosters the growth of local agripreneurs, but also strengthens the agricultural value chain, benefiting communities throughout Guimaras.
Guimaras State University extends its heartfelt gratitude to DA – Western Visayas for supporting this vision. The university is dedicated to the project’s successful implementation and welcomes collaboration from farmers, agripreneurs, and local stakeholders to ensure its lasting impact. Through this initiative, GSU aims to empower the next generation of agripreneurs and contribute to the sustainable growth of Guimaras’ agricultural sector.
