The Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) hosted an event titled “Values Orientation and Restoration Workshop,” centered around the theme “Building One Another: A Biblical Perspective,” on October 23, 2024, at the Agri-Eco Convention Hall. This initiative seeks to promote collaboration and understanding among the faculty and staff of Guimaras State University (GSU). All permanent faculty and staff of GSU attended this event.
Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, University President, delivered her welcome remarks, highlighting that this activity serves as a reminder of our moral obligations, our responsibilities to fellow workers, and the appropriate actions we should take toward one another. She also remarked that being the president of this university is not particularly challenging; rather, the most complex aspect to manage is the human resource, which is the most delicate of all the organization’s resources. “This activity serves as a reminder of our obligations and responsibilities as individuals. As we age and face various challenges, our personal characteristics may change,” Dr. Parreño stated during her speech, concluding with a powerful call to journey together in this institution and community, united as one GSU.
Following that, Dr. Bernardo G. Cagasan, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, discussed team building, while Dr. Jonathan G. Gabion, Quality Management Coordinator and Director of the Planning and Project Monitoring Unit, addressed leadership and stewardship during the morning session. In the afternoon, Mr. Alfonso Ma. C. Parreño, Deputy Provincial Director of Advocates Inc., discussed the impact of positive and negative energy on our well-being and faith. Furthermore, Dr. Enriqueta N. Siva, the Director of Gender and Development, discussed the values associated with public service.
Dr. Efren S. Tellermo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered his closing remarks. He praised all of the attendees for being complete from beginning to end of the workshop. He also congratulated the speakers for the entire day’s workshop and for providing such comprehensive content on their topics. In his speech, he expressed his hope that the HRMO will propose an activity before the semester ends to facilitate capability building for the faculty and staff. According to him, this is the first time he has observed some changes, which is why he sincerely congratulated everyone who remained in the hall from start to finish. Dr. Tellermo concluded his speech with the statement, “Whatever achievements Guimaras State University attains in the future, we are part of that. We will help GSU reach new heights; it will be a difficult journey, but it must begin with ourselves.”
