International Coastal Clean-up

Guimaras State University (GSU) joined forces with the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Guimaras and other agencies in a meaningful collaboration for the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) on September 20, 2024. This event, held at Taklong Island National Marine Reserve (TINMR) in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, also saw participation from the Coast Guard Auxiliary Guimaras Nueva Valencia, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), DENR-PENRO Guimaras, and other dedicated community members. With a shared commitment to environmental preservation, GSU interns worked alongside these organizations, collecting and properly disposing of waste materials along the island’s coastline, showcasing GSU’s active role in environmental advocacy. The ICC, organized annually by DENR-PENRO Guimaras and CGS Guimaras every third Saturday of September, promotes global participation in safeguarding coastal ecosystems. GSU’s involvement in this initiative underscores the university’s dedication to fostering environmental stewardship among its students, integrating academic learning with hands-on action in environmental protection. By collaborating in the ICC, GSU not only supports coastal conservation but also strengthens its role as an educational institution committed to sustainable practices and community involvement, preparing students to become advocates for environmental change.
