Guimaras State University’s THM Department recently conducted the “Community Thrive” training in Barangay Tacay, Buenavista, aimed at enhancing residents’ hospitality and food service skills. Held on August 13, 2024, at the Barangay Auditorium, this initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of “No Poverty” and “Gender Equality” and is supported by the university’s General Appropriations Act funding.
The program focused on critical areas such as food safety, sanitation, and hygiene, equipping participants with the skills needed to operate future food service ventures, including plans for seafood and floating cottage dining experiences. By emphasizing sustainable tourism and high standards in food service, this initiative helps residents prepare to serve safe, quality food in innovative restaurant setups, further boosting the local economy.

The “Community Thrive” training highlights GSU’s dedication to empowering communities by addressing socio-economic goals through skill-building programs that support sustainable tourism and livelihood development.
