Empowering Local Communities: GSU’s Training for Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality

Training Session

On August 13, 2024, Guimaras State University’s Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) Department held a one-day training for Brgy. Tacay residents in Buenavista, Guimaras. Focused on promoting sustainable tourism and hospitality skills, the training aimed to support Sustainable Development Goals like “No Poverty” and “Gender Equality” by enhancing food safety, sanitation, and hygiene knowledge.

Held at the Barangay Auditorium, the session was led by industry expert Paulo Jude Poral, who shared practical insights on food handling, from ingredient selection to cooking and serving. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, learning to identify food safety issues through interactive exercises.

This initiative aligns with the university’s mission to uplift local livelihoods, equipping Brgy. Tacay residents with essential hospitality skills to develop safe, high-quality food services, supporting emerging tourism initiatives such as floating cottages and mangrove restaurants.
