Driving Financial Success: GSU Empowers Tricycle Drivers with Essential Money Management Skills

Financial Management Training

On August 13, 2024, Guimaras State University (GSU) held a financial management training for members of the San Lorenzo Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (SANTODA) North Association at the GSU Agri-Eco Convention Hall. The College of Business and Management, in collaboration with GSU’s Community Extension Services, organized the event to equip 50 tricycle drivers with essential financial skills to promote stability and improve quality of life.

Instructors Revenlie G. Galapin and Joeve Grace N. Gaborno led sessions covering vital financial topics such as budgeting, saving, managing debt, and income planning. Participants learned strategies for controlling expenses, setting financial goals, and accessing financial services like credit and insurance. The training emphasized financial resilience, encouraging drivers to set aside savings and explore investment opportunities for long-term growth.

The interactive format, including group discussions and practical exercises, helped participants apply the concepts to their lives, reinforcing GSU’s commitment to supporting financial literacy in the local community. The training aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, economic growth, and financial inclusion. The day concluded with certificates awarded to the participants, reflecting GSU’s dedication to fostering financial empowerment within Guimaras.
