The College of Business and Management’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) at Guimaras State University (GSU) recently hosted a comprehensive training program on Events Management Services NC III. This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal No. 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by equipping individuals with skills to foster growth in the local Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition (MICE) industry—a key sector in Guimaras’ economic development.
Held last April 3-5, 2024, at the GSU Agri Eco Convention Center, the training saw the participation of 110 individuals, including THM students, faculty, BSHM alumni, and members of the Suclaran Micro-entrepreneur Association. Led by Mr. Mark Anthony Panique, a certified TESDA Trainer from TESDA Regional Office VI, the training provided an in-depth look into the competencies required for Events Management Services NC III certification.
The sessions included a detailed overview of essential EVMS NC III competencies, delivered through a combination of lectures and hands-on activities. To solidify their learning, participants were tasked with creating personal portfolios showcasing a simple event plan, which they presented during the assessment. Each participant also underwent an interview with the assessor, allowing them to demonstrate their understanding and skills in event management.
Through this initiative, the THM Department aims to strengthen the local MICE industry by addressing skills gaps and fostering economic growth. This training represents GSU’s commitment to empowering students, alumni, and community members with valuable competencies to support Guimaras’ sustainable development.
