GSU’s TUDLO-E Program Enhances Technical Writing Skills

As part of Guimaras State University’s (GSU) commitment to promoting quality education under Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), the TUDLO-E program aims to guide participants toward enhanced educational opportunities. A Basic Technical Writing workshop was held on February 13-14, 2024, designed to equip attendees with essential skills for crafting important business documents.

The workshop opened with a prayer led by Dr. Sol M. Basañez, setting a respectful tone for the event. Brgy. Captain Jovet Oneil Griño delivered welcome remarks, emphasizing the significance of educational initiatives in empowering the community. Dr. Margie Y. De La Cruz, GSU’s Extension Director, outlined the program’s goals, which include fostering effective communication skills, enhancing employability, and promoting lifelong learning. Instr. Aziel Lyn Y. Estilo energized the attendees with an engaging activity that highlighted the importance of collaboration in learning.

Dr. Jocyl C. Caber, an esteemed English professor, served as the main speaker, sharing her expertise in technical writing. Day 1 focused on the fundamentals of creating minutes of meetings, memorandums, reports, and business letters. Participants actively engaged in discussions, with Professor Joven C. Cablas, the master of ceremonies, lightening the atmosphere with a dance number to foster camaraderie among attendees. Professor Josephine G. De Asis formally closed the day’s session, reinforcing the day’s learning objectives.

On Day 2, Dr. Caber facilitated hands-on practice by dividing participants into five groups, each tasked with writing business letters, minutes of meetings, and reports. This collaborative approach not only enhanced their writing skills but also encouraged peer learning and critical thinking, aligning with the goals of SDG 4 to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education. The session included constructive critiques of each group’s output, ensuring participants gained a comprehensive understanding of technical writing principles.

The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the participants and the speaker for their engagement and accomplishments in technical writing. This event exemplified GSU’s dedication to providing quality education and fostering skills that are crucial for the workforce, ultimately contributing to community development and sustainable progress.
