On December 20, 2023, the College of Arts and Sciences conducted a successful one-day extension program at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) in Concordia, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The initiative aimed to enhance personal development and social responsibility among youth participants at the center, focusing on fostering self-awareness, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and promoting a growth mindset.
The event commenced with registration and an opening prayer, followed by remarks from Dr. Agatha Rica B. Norilla, CAS Extension Coordinator, who emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting RRCY youth. Prof. Jimmy Luzuriaga highlighted the importance of self-awareness in personal and community development.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and activities designed to deepen their understanding of themselves and their roles in society, preparing them to become more responsible and productive members of their communities upon their return home.
The activity supports the Sustainable Development Goal of “Good Health and Well-Being” by encouraging participants to learn, improve their weaknesses, use their strengths positively, find more meaning and purpose in life, and cultivate appreciation and optimism.
The successful execution of this program represents a significant step toward improving the lives of youth at RRCY through educational and self-development initiatives.
