Guimaras State University Conducts Sanitation and Hygiene Training

Sanitation and Hygiene Training

On December 13, 2023, Guimaras State University launched a four-day extension activity aimed at promoting sanitation and personal hygiene among the residents of Barangay San Nicolas. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasizes quality education.

The event began with an opening prayer led by Instr. Aziel Lyn Y. Estilo, followed by welcome remarks from Brgy. Kagawad Reynaldo Petrola. Prof. Josephine G. De Asis, the BEED Extension Coordinator, outlined the purpose of the training, emphasizing its role in fostering educational opportunities that enhance community health. Dr. Jocyl C. Caber then led an energizing activity to engage participants and promote active learning.

The first day concluded with a lecture by university nurse Mrs. Jean G. Baterzal, highlighting the importance of sanitation and personal hygiene. This foundational knowledge is essential for individual health and for fostering a culture of cleanliness in the community.

On December 14, Mrs. Baterzal led a session on handwashing, emphasizing its role in preventing disease transmission. Participants learned proper handwashing techniques through a fun song, reinforcing the importance of washing hands for at least 20 seconds. The session included quizzes and role-playing activities, with participants demonstrating good dental hygiene practices under Mrs. Baterzal’s guidance.

On December 20 and 21, the training continued with discussions on bathing, showering, and the importance of wearing clean clothes. Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations and interactive activities to reinforce hygiene habits.

Quizzes were conducted daily, with prizes awarded for correct answers, creating a fun and engaging learning environment.

By integrating education on sanitation and hygiene, Guimaras State University continues to build a healthier, more informed community, underscoring its commitment to advancing SDG 4 and promoting quality education for all.
