In a significant step towards enhancing the quality of education and aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, the Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office VI conducted a crucial validation visit at Guimaras State University (GSU) on September 19, 2023. The visit aimed at evaluating several undergraduate programs, ensuring that the university’s offerings meet national standards for academic excellence and relevance.
The visit was part of a series of assessments aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education institutions in the region, helping them to better contribute to SDG 4, which focuses on providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. SDG 4 emphasizes the importance of ensuring that all students have access to quality education and opportunities to acquire skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

During the validation visit, RQAT members reviewed the university’s programs, assessing the curriculum, teaching standards, facilities, and overall student experience. The assessment process also involved discussions with faculty members, administrators, and students to ensure that the programs not only met the academic requirements but also aligned with the needs of the community and the workforce.
Dr. Efren S. Tellermo, University President, expressed his commitment to continuously improving the university’s academic programs in line with national standards and the global agenda for sustainable development. “We are dedicated to providing our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the modern world while also contributing to the attainment of SDG 4,” said Dr. Tellermo.

The outcome of the validation visit will provide valuable insights into areas for improvement and further development, which will help GSU maintain its commitment to delivering high-quality education. This effort is integral to ensuring that the university remains a key player in fostering inclusive and sustainable development within the region, particularly by empowering students with the necessary skills for a better tomorrow.
Through initiatives like these, GSU continues to contribute to the realization of SDG 4, ensuring that quality education is not only a goal but a continuous process of improvement, meeting the evolving needs of students, employers, and society at large.
