Empowering Minds: GSU Hosts Seminar on Self-Care and Mental Wellness with Global Experts

On September 18, 2023, a psychological seminar, “Developing Self-Care, ” occurred at the ICTO Conference Room in Guimaras State University (GSU). Organized in collaboration with the Helping Hands for Guimaras Foundation, Inc., and the University of Ostrava, the event was attended by GSU Student Republic officers in the morning and by college deans, selected personnel, and Social Science faculty members in the afternoon.

The seminar featured speakers Mr. Tomas Sebera and Ms. Petra Smrzova, who focused on techniques for enhancing mental well-being, managing stress, and practicing self-care. Mr. Sebera addressed the importance of mental hygiene, coping mechanisms, and mindfulness strategies, as well as managing conditions like anxiety, depression, and trauma. He emphasized the impact of digital influence on mental health and shared techniques such as breathing exercises and meditation to promote calmness.

Ms. Smrzova discussed meditation methods, guidance on supporting individuals with mental health challenges, and introduced resources like crisis hotlines, AI chatbots, and local psychological support centers. She also provided insights on self-care types, barriers, and tools for managing stress effectively.

Participants left with a deeper understanding of self-care, actionable self-care plans, and knowledge of nearby mental health resources and support tools. The seminar underscored the importance of self-care and offered practical strategies for personal and professional mental well-being.
