Review and Validation of Survey Instrument for Establishment of PAFES in Guimaras Island

Guimaras, Philippines – September 1, 2023 – Guimaras, known for its agricultural and fisheries sectors, faces distinct challenges that require tailored interventions. To address these, a comprehensive research study on the establishment of the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension System (PAFES) has been undertaken, with a focus on improving the effectiveness of local agriculture and fisheries policies.

Central to this study was the review and validation of the filled survey instrument, a critical step in the research methodology. On September 1, 2023, enumerators participated in a training session designed to enhance their data collection skills. The training was pivotal in ensuring that the data collected would be of the highest quality, with accurate and complete responses from the field.

The process of validating the survey instrument is crucial for minimizing errors and inconsistencies, which can impact the integrity of the research findings. By soliciting feedback from key stakeholders—such as local farmers and policymakers—the survey instrument was refined to better reflect the real needs of the community. This collaboration between researchers and stakeholders ensures that the data gathered is relevant and representative of the island’s agricultural and fisheries landscape.

This validation process not only upholds ethical research standards but also strengthens the research’s legitimacy. The improved survey instrument serves as the foundation for collecting reliable data, which can directly inform decision-making and policy development. This initiative aligns with the principles of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4—Quality Education—by promoting inclusive and accessible knowledge through local involvement and capacity building. It further contributes to ensuring that all learners, including those in rural and marginalized areas like Guimaras, can benefit from education that fosters sustainable practices in agriculture and fisheries.

In essence, the validation of the survey instrument plays a vital role in empowering local communities, enhancing research accuracy, and contributing to the sustainable development of Guimaras’ agriculture and fisheries sectors. This meticulous process stands as a cornerstone for the success of the research and, ultimately, for the establishment of a more effective agriculture and fisheries extension system in the province.
