Guimaras State University Conducts Skills Training on Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing

The Guimaras State University (GSU) College of Engineering and Industrial Technology (CEIT), in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buenavista, successfully conducted a Skills Training on Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing (EPAS) NC I. The training, held on August 16, 2023, at the BIT Electronics Laboratory Room, aimed to equip unemployed Buenavistahanons with essential technical skills to enhance their employability.

The training was designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in basic electronics principles and terminologies, electronic product assembly, and servicing. Through a combination of workshops and hands-on demonstrations, participants developed practical skills in assembling and servicing electronic products. The program also highlighted the marketability of the assembled products, encouraging trainees to explore potential employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The event commenced with a prayer and the singing of the national anthem, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Margie Y. Dela Cruz, GSU Director for Community Extension Services. She welcomed the participants and emphasized the university’s commitment to community development through skills training initiatives. Engr. Ruben M. Habaña, Dean of the College of Engineering and Industrial Technology, also expressed his gratitude to all who supported the event, underscoring the significance of technical education in empowering the community.

The training sessions were led by experienced instructors from GSU’s CEIT department. Instr. Michael M. Occeña, BIT Program Head, introduced the concepts of Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing, including the basic electronic components. Prof. Fernando J. Libutaque Jr. provided an in-depth discussion on common electronic tools and equipment, ensuring that participants gained familiarity with essential instruments. Additionally, Instr. Alfred D. Gallo conducted a session on the Multi Tester, explaining its parts and functions in detail.

Throughout the training, participants eagerly engaged with the lessons, demonstrating keen interest in learning new technical skills. The interactive sessions allowed them to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios, enhancing their confidence in handling electronic components and servicing tasks.

The program concluded with a heartfelt expression of gratitude from the participants, who shared their insights and appreciation for the opportunity to gain valuable skills. The GSU CEIT Community Extension Services Team was recognized for their dedication and effort in facilitating the training. As a token of achievement, each participant was awarded a Certificate of Participation, marking their successful completion of the program. The event also acknowledged the support of the Buenavista LGU and personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), whose involvement contributed to the program’s success.

Buenavista, like many other communities, faces challenges related to unemployment and underemployment. The EPAS NC I training directly addresses this issue by equipping individuals with skills that align with industry demands. Given the increasing reliance on electronic devices across various sectors, proficiency in electronic product assembly and servicing enhances employability and opens avenues for sustainable livelihoods.

Moreover, the partnership between academia and industry through this training ensures that the curriculum remains relevant to evolving market needs. By fostering collaboration with institutions like GSU, the program enhances job readiness among participants, bridging the skills gap and improving workforce quality.
