The Training on Rabbitry, held on May 25, 2023, at Guimaras State University-Baterna Campus, was part of the In-School Youth Empowerment through Engagement in Agricultural Enterprise initiative. Organized by GSU Community Extension Services in collaboration with the 4H-Club, the training sought to equip young people with valuable skills in rabbit farming as a sustainable and income-generating agricultural venture.
The event started with an opening prayer, followed by welcome remarks from Extension Coordinator, Instr. Reynro Herrera, followed by a motivational message from Dr. Julius Vergara, Campus Director. The first session, led by Mr. Seth Gromia, covered the basics of rabbitry, including breed selection, breeding practices, and key management techniques. Participants also received hands-on experience in feed management and rabbit care under the guidance of Miss Angelyn Jalondoni, who demonstrated practical skills.
The second session, led by Mr. Jayson Dela China and Miss Jocerie Genioda, focused on value-adding ventures, introducing participants to innovative rabbit-based products. The demonstration of rabbit meat recipes sparked interest, as it showed new ways to expand the business potential of rabbit farming.
The event concluded with an open forum where participants’ questions were answered, followed by the distribution of certificates. Many participants expressed their gratitude, acknowledging that the training had not only enhanced their knowledge of rabbitry but also inspired them to consider it as a viable business opportunity.
In conclusion, the training provided valuable insights into the practical and entrepreneurial aspects of rabbit farming, empowering participants to initiate their own rabbitry projects. The combination of technical knowledge and innovative value-adding strategies will enable them to turn rabbit farming into a sustainable livelihood.
